Student Corner

Extracurricular activities are an essential part of a well-rounded education! Our students are active in various non-academic activities that enhance their Georgetown Biotechnology experience. Whether serving the community or getting together for a day out in D.C., we are always ready to embark on an exciting journey!

Highlights

Students and faculty from Georgetown University’s Biotechnology Program attended the Maryland Life Sciences Bioinnovation Conference held on October 10th, 2024. The Maryland Life Sciences Bioinnovation Conference is an event hosted by a division within the Maryland Tech Council. This annual conference gathers top life science professionals in industry and academia from the DC-Maryland area, including leaders from global brands, scientists, venture capitalists, and startups.

Georgetown Biotechnology Program’s students and staff were encouraged to attend the conference to continue engaging with the greater biotechnology community and to stay updated on emerging biomedical technologies. Throughout the conference, there were multiple opportunities to hear from leaders in different sectors of the biotechnology sphere – in R&D, marketing, and even the Maryland Department of Commerce. Students took advantage of this opportunity and interacted with the speakers, presenters, and other attendees during the conference.

The Biotechnology Program will continue to engage with the local biotechnology community and have learning and networking opportunities in the upcoming 2025 Maryland Life Sciences Bioinnovation Conference.

Georgetown’s Rocket Pit Competition: MS in Biotechnology Student Takes 1st Prize! Biotechnology Program is excited to announce another entrepreneurial success! Our student Bri Buch competed in a Rocket Pitch at the McDonough School of Business and won the 1st prize with her proposal for a diagnostic company focused on detecting Lpa. Congratulations, Bri! We are looking forward to hearing more about your future endeavors!

Our beloved Class President, Nick Gravina, MS Biotechnology Candidate, May ’24, takes on Capitol Hill on Monday, April 29, 2024! Always passionate about science and space exploration, Nick will speak to congress on the importance of funding scientific education, including opportunities for underprivileged and underrepresented groups and individuals. Alongside famed science teacher, Bill Nye and other notable scientists, Nick will reiterate the importance of funding for scientific initiatives primarily in space exploration and a major part of that is the NASA budget. You don’t have to be a tenured professor or a clinician with 40 years of experience to have an impact on Capitol Hill. We are so proud of you, and will be cheering you on, Nick!

Clay Page, MS Biotechnology Candidate, May 2024 and his mentor Fred Zaino, Founder, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer, Keystone Capital Partners LLC, attended the LD Micro Invitational XIV Investment Conference in NYC, April 8-9, 2024.

Our very own Shaun Kronenwetter (MS Biotechnology Candidate, May ’24) participated in the Big East Champion and won: the 50 Yard Freestyle School Record, 200 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley School Record and 5x All Big East. Big East Champion and the Men’s team were also awarded CSCAA Scholar All America. Congratulations, Shaun!
