The Certificate in Biotechnology BioBusiness provides scientists with business skills and opportunities in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries.

Biotechnology has catalyzed a vibrant industry that is a major engine of economic growth for the United States and global economies. The demand for scientists with business backgrounds to serve in managerial positions in the biotechnology industry continues to grow. This certificate equips scientists with the proper training to rise to managerial positions.

The certificate program and the M.S. in Biotechnology BioBusiness Track both equip students for managerial positions in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries.

Courses

Certificate in Biotechnology BioBusiness students complete four core required courses, five elective courses, and a portfolio project.

Biotechnology BioBusiness certificate students must complete these required courses:

  • BIOT 5200 Financial Matrix in Biotechnology (1 credit)
  • BIOT 5230 Intellectual Property (2 credits)
  • BIOT 5500 Management Strategies for Biotech Companies (1 credit)
  • BIOT 5510 Commercialization for the Biotechnology Industry (1 credit)

Example Program Plan for International Students

The following is an example schedule of courses for international students on F-1 or J-1 visas. F-1/J-1 students must take at least 9 credits in their first semester; they may complete all 10 credits in the first semester, or take the last credit in a second semester.
