Mark Brown (’02)

Assistant Professor of Molecular Oncology

I graduated from the Georgetown Biotech Program in 2002. Following Georgetown, I completed a PhD in Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas in Austin and completed my post-doc at a biopharmaceutical company in Boulder, Colorado. I am now on faculty as an Assistant Professor of Molecular Oncology in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University where I have successfully developed therapeutics for the treatment of colorectal, hepatocellular and breast carcinomas. In addition to my primary appointment in the Department of Clinical Sciences, I am also on faculty in our Cell and Molecular Biology Program and in the Colorado School of Public Health. One of the highlights of my academic career was the recruitment of a Georgetown Biotech Grad (Melissa Edwards, ’11) who is now a PhD student in my research group.

My wife and I recently purchased an historic horse ranch about 20 minutes north of Colorado State University with beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains. So in addition to my academic career, I now raise horses and cattle. I’m in heaven. I can honestly say that the Georgetown Biotech Program gave me the background I needed to succeed in my PhD program and, ultimately, launched my academic career. My time at Georgetown was one of the busiest but most enjoyable times in my life. I miss the class of 2002!
