Elvena Fong (’07)
Health Data Analytics Manager, Oklahoma State University
My career path is a very different one from what would be typical of someone who came from a scientific background. From a young age, I was drawn towards both computer science and the sciences of biology and chemistry. I was a biochemistry major in college. But then I realized that I had no passion for pursuing a career as a doctor, or a scientist. Instead, I fell back to computer science, which I had minored in during undergrad. For a couple of years after that, I worked in a small IT company, growing a diverse set of skills, but not knowing what I really wanted in life. Finally, one day, with some push from my parents, I ended up entering the biotechnology program here at Georgetown.
Little did I know, this was the turning point in my life. In the eight years since I’ve graduated, I have followed my passion in bioinformatics, before making the leap to business. I landed in the health industry as a data integration lead.
I am certain that I will keep learning, growing, and building on top of the foundation that I have gained here at Georgetown.
